My earlier post on forum registration was rubbish! I guess I must have assumed that most people were probably already members of some forum or another already and knew what to do! Apologies!
Here's a revised
Before you can add your own pearls of wisdom on this forum you need to register.
To do this, push the register button, then provide a unique username, a password - known only to you - and a valid email address (you choose whether the email address is actually displayed or not) - Same applies to your birthday if you choose to enter real one!
To help prevent spamming and automatic registration, you will also be asked to identify some jumbled up letters and numerals.
This can be a bit of a pain but if you can't read them pressing the enter key should present you with a new set of jumbled characters to identify!
The Terms and conditions of the forum are displayed for your consideration at this time. The terms and conditions are pretty standard, but if you've not joined a forum before they are very definitely worth a read.
The whole process takes just a minute or two. If you've not messed up and your chosen username is truly unique then an email will be fired off to the email address you gave and this will contain a link which you must click on in order to activate your forum account. This takes another 30 seconds or so. But when you get the email will largely depend on how often your email programme is set to check the internet for new mail. (This can vary between a few minutes and half an hour!) Most email clients also have a button you can press to force an instant check for new email if you find yourself waiting too long for your activation email.
Once you have registered you can then log in using your username and password and are able to join in and create new topics of conversation - or simply tag your comments onto existing conversation threads.
As a member you can also access your own "profile" and modify some of the information you gave when you registered. (should you so wish!) You can also view - but not alter - other members profiles.
When registering it is therefore important that you do it from a machine where you are also able to read your new emails !
The forum is currently configured so that ANYONE on the internet can literally stumble across it and read it - but note that only registered users can modify its' content. Please bear this in mind when posting new messages.
The forum can be set so that only registered members can see it - but whilst we are encouraging new membership, it would be daft to hide it away. Anyway I can't see a need to hide it away from the public gaze - can you?
I really look forward to seeing all ex CCP and MPS employees on the forum in the not too distant. It's only a few days old (27th Nov 2007) right now but already 3 people have stumbled across it and registered. Brilliant.
Let's see how many folk we can round up by Christmas?
